Sunday March 2...Although the workout for the high school field was cancelled, we were able to run a workout this afternoon at Temple University's artificial turf practice field. Thank you to the 'Big Dog' Travis Manger for all of his help this afternoon.
We had a few collegiate standouts today.
Jake Brownell and Jeff Wathne from Temple continued to show amazing progress with the Precision coaches. Jake has made a solid transition to a more upright posture at impact and at the same time delivering a lower more powerful trajectory. Jake had a long string of consecutive kicks from 37 yards that hit the top of the net, dead center of the uprights.
Jeff hit quite a few booming punts with a slight change to the swing path of his kicking leg and concentration on keeping his right shoulder back as he makes his drop. Preciaion coaches Crocker and George Radu were also impressed with Jeff's hand work this week. He is buying himself time with the hard work he is focusing on hand technique. And Jeff, don't forget to jump straight up at impact and minimze your 'carry'. You hit some 'killers' when you did that!
Jon Toroni of Conestoga High had a tough time keeping the ball inside the net and off of Diamond St .with high booming field goals all afternoon.
TJ Chiarolanza of Muhlenberg impressed us with his new strength to combine with his usual straight blasts. It is fun and very useful when we have a lefty like TJ to kick in the 'Make Your Own' drill with Jake Brownell, who is a righty. The two of them had several balls that crisscrossed through the uprights!
And of course, we have to point out that a major highlight of the afternoon was Pat Wilson, graduating senior, from Bensalem High. He is one of the best high school, long snappers, we have ever had the pleasure of coaching. He bruised the hands of our punters today with dart after dart thrown back from 14 yards! As a matter of fact, he threw a couple field goal snaps right through the hands of our 54 year old holder, Coach Crocker.
February 4, 2008... Patrick Campbell from Council Rock North has committed to Temple.
