Frame #173 Analysis: Your right knee is commonly positioned behind directly behind the ball at impact. Drop that knee down and inside the ball. You will keep your power but will drive the ball straighter with a significantly less chance of a miss hit. Your steep approach affects your plant. As you can see in this shot, your knee is almost directly behind the ball. This forces you into a very upright position at the plant point. At your moment of contact you’ll be forced to dig down to effectively get your knee out of the way for your follow through. Notice in shot 162 how far you are beginning to lean the lower half of your body to the left. This is a common compensation move to make room for your knee to get through the ball and to turn your foot over so that you can contact on top of your foot. We want a consistent and repeatable kicking process. I suggest that a straighter approach will make your plant and contact much smoother and consistent. You’ll be able to control the ball flight better when you don’t have to make all of the compensation moves at impact and follow through. When you have mastered your knee position, we can begin to adjust your plant, posture, arm and leg swing path to bring your ball down a bit. You will see a major change in your ability to hit your target. |
